 I did some more thinking on this. Maybe another option would be to drop
 the enable-<specific-database> switches and replace them with one new one:
 --with-database-backend={sqlite3,mysql}

 This would create several advantages:
 - much easier code (error checking) in ./configure when more database
 backends are added in the future (postgres, oracle?)
 - obvious selection mechanism that shows that only one db backend can be
 picked.
