Yes, that's very true :)

FWIW, I help admin a gaming system that uses XML configuration and it's a 
right pain in the backside, and when I wrote my own plugins I went to a 
.ini style format.  Configuration errors have dropped dramatically.

Regardless of which is chosen, it's probably useful to offer a 
"configuration check only" mode in the software which just tells you 
whether the config file parses correctly (as per Samba, Apache, etc).
