I agree about the different use cases for the HSM initializing and a good interface for mutex support is implemented on the SoftHSM. I also agree on the one thread per session. So you mean that nothing should be shared between sessions? Each session should for example have its own copy of the object store? And all objects should be CKA_TOKEN = CK_FALSE, meaning that they are session objects and not token objects.
